December 2024 Advance news

Please Remember that there is no meeting at The Springhouse on Thursday December 12th.

Emails

A number of members have complained that they have not been receiving emails from our u3a. This issue is now being investigated by committee members Sue Green and Danni Tate. They are sending out emails to individual members asking for a response to confirm receipt. Already we are uncovering some faults in the system. By undertaking this exercise, we aim to correct any errors and include any omissions. If you receive an email, please respond. Otherwise, you will be getting a phone call.

Trips; Theatre Visits

Our Trips and Theatre Visit organisers do a great job organising days out and booking West End shows. In this day and age, we must recognise the potential for disruption to journeys. Road accidents, demonstrations, bad weather and much more can lead to delays in travel plans. The committee has agreed the following indemnity clause which will apply to all such journeys, “For all trips and theatre visits, Stanford-le-Hope & District u3a cannot be held responsible for late arrivals due to circumstances beyond our control, e.g., road accidents, breakdowns, unforeseen delays, acts of terrorism, demonstrations, or adverse weather conditions etc.”

Membership Renewals

Membership renewals for 2025/2026 will commence at our January general meeting on Thursday 9th January 2025/2026.  Membership fees remain at £15-00 with an additional £5-00 should you wish to receive the Third Age Matters (TAM) magazine from the national office.

At the January meeting renewal forms will be issued upon entry to the hall. We invite you to take a seat, complete the form, then join in line for payment. Should you wish, you may take the form home and complete it and bring it the February or March general meeting with payment.

Attendance at General Meetings

Don’t forget, access to general meetings is via the side door at The Springhouse. Attempts to gain entry via the main entrance will be politely refused. Exceptions are made for members with a disability accompanied by one other person. Entrance for all is from 1.30pm. Please help us to help you by conforming to these instructions.

Please remember to bring your membership card with you to all general meetings. Your membership number will be recorded on entry. This is for health and safety reasons, should the need arise for us all to leave the building in an emergency. It will also help us understand which members attend general meetings in addition too other activities.

We are introducing a book for those whose attendance has been registered and then need to leave the meeting prior to its conclusion. In such circumstances, please leave by the door at the rear of the hall and sign out in the book provided.

The Stanford-le-Hope & District u3a Committee wish all our u3a members and their relations and friends, every best wish for the festive season and a happy and peaceful New Year.
