Advance News July 2025

Speaker for Thursday 10thJuly 2025 will be Brian Carline on, “Days of Dolly Blue and Izal”.

Brian previously spoke to our u3a on, “Our Street” in April 2024. Brian was a school teacher for 35 years working in both inner and outer boroughs. He finished his teaching career as an Assistant Head teacher in a school in Essex.

In his early teaching days, he was also a comedian reaching the Gala Final of New Faces in 1977. In his retirement he has had published three books all with an amusing slant on education. His fourth book Soil, Sweat and Tears focuses on amusing advice for reluctant gardeners.

He has also written three books on amusing aspects of life in the 40s and 50s

One of the main principles of any u3a is about meeting and engaging with other people. As such, the reservation of seats at general meetings is not acceptable.  “Keeping a seat for a friend “, who may not even materialise, is not a fair thing to do.

Nominations for the 2025/2026 u3a Committee close on Thursday 10th July. Please ensure you have the nominee’s permission before putting their name forward. We still need a Treasurer and new committee members are always needed.

We will have no trips for sale at the July meeting but please watch this space for any information regarding future Trips or Events.
